Balboa Park Club
Many of the Statewide sessions will be in San Diego's Balboa Park at the Balboa Park Club, 2144 Pan American Road West. Inside the building is a large ballroom with a wooden floor where most of our dances and workshops will be held. There is a large lobby area where tables will be set up and the lunches and dinner will be available. Also the Santa Fe room to the left of the lobby will house the installation lunch.
The Recital Hall
The Recital Hall is in the same building as the Puppet Theater
and is next door to the Balboa Park Club. The Kafana on Friday night,
the Teachers Workshop on Saturday morning, and the Concert on Sunday
will all be in the Recital Hall.
Parking, Some Directions, and the Marathon.
There are several parking areas in Balboa Park near our facilities. Parking is free.
So how to get to the Balboa Park Club. Well, according to Google, from the preferred hotel:
Get on CA-163 south.
Take it all the way to the I-5 north/Park Blvd exit.
Turn left onto Park Blvd. Then turn left onto Presidents Way and find a parking spot.
So I heard there is a marathon Sunday morning and roads around Balboa Park will be closed! What should I do?
Well you could run in the marathon. It starts about 6:30 so if you run really, really, really fast you'll still have time to come dancing. Our review session doesn't start until 10:00.
Luckily for non-runners, the directions for getting from the hotel are pretty much the same. The marathon organizers recommend the following:
• Travel southbound on CA-163
• Exit to Park Blvd
• Turn left onto Park Blvd
• Turn left into first set of parking lots for Balboa Park (President's Way -from webmaster)
It may appear that Park Blvd is closed for the marathon, so you may be a little confused. It is actually closed, but it reopens very early in the morning. It is reopened by 7:45 am on Sunday. It is very important that people follow these directions. You have to approach from the south because many of the roads in North Park won’t reopen until 11am or 12 pm.
You get to practice on Friday and Saturday so you'll be a navigational expert Sunday morning.
Folk Dance Center for the Friday and Saturday Afterparties
For the afterparties on Friday and Saturday evenings we are moving to the Folk Dance Center at 4569 30th St. San Diego. Note the sign on the building says Dancing Unlimited.
There will be a free shuttle between the Balboa Park Club and the Folk Dance Center for the afterparties. Folk Dance Center does not have a parking lot so only on-street parking is available and it can be limited. So take advantage of the shuttle.
